Calling All Musicians
Wednesday, September 14
Regular Wednesday rehearsals for GosBells (adult handbells) and Sanctuary Choir (adult choir) are starting. All are welcome, though we are especially in need of tenor and alto voices, and we have plenty of room for new ringers! GosBells meet weekly from 6-6:55 and Sanctuary Choir follows from 7-8:30. Speak with rebecca@ststlc.net if you are interested or have any questions! This year choir and GosBells will lead worship at the first service (9:00), with very few exceptions.

Interested in singing (or playing) during a worship service, but choir and handbells just aren't "your thing?" Consider lending your worship-singing, guitar strumming, bass-plucking, keyboard-tickling, drum set playing talents during this year's second Sunday service (11:00 in Agape.) Let Rebecca or Fred Hoff know if you’re willing to get into the volunteer rotation!

Choir

Adult Choir
The cornerstone of our music ministry, the Sanctuary Choir meets weekly on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:30 p.m., September through May, providing inspiring musical leadership for Sunday worship, usually at 10:00 a.m.

Soloists/Vocal Ensembles
Too busy for weekly choir rehearsals? Consider sharing your talent as a soloist, or as part of a small group. Please contact Rebecca Redmann to volunteer at music@ststlc.net or 608-222-1241 ext. 16.

Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument consider sharing your talent in worship. Please contact Rebecca Redmann to volunteer at music@ststlc.net or 608-222-1241 ext. 16.

Summer Choirs
This choir sings one Sunday a month, June, July and August, usually at 10:00 a.m. Dates are announced in advance. Simply show up for the rehearsal 30 minutes prior to the service.

Cantors
Assist by leading the congregation in singing parts of the liturgy, usually the Psalms. Please contact Rebecca Redmann to volunteer at music@ststlc.net or
608-222-1241 ext. 16.

Handbell Choir
Called the GosBells, this energetic, lively group rehearses Wednesday evenings at
6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary September through May and plays regularly in worship.

Brass Ensemble
This group of brass players typically plays for the festival liturgies of Easter, Christmas, All Saints Sunday and Reformation Sunday. Trumpets, trombones, baritone, French horn and tuba all play.

Choirs
Sanctuary Choir: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Anyone of confirmation age or above who is interested in joining the Sanctuary Choir is welcome--no auditions, no experience required. (We are especially in need of tenor and alto voices: hint, hint.) Questions? Contact Rebecca at music@ststlc.net or 608-222-1241x16.

GosBells Adult Handbell Choir: Wednesdays, 6:00-6:55 p.m.
Anyone interested in ringing should contact Rebecca at music@ststlc.net or 608-222-1241 x16. Fluent music reading experience is helpful but not required.  We can always use new ringers, and would love to establish a pool of ringers of all ages who are willing to be substitutes.

All rehearsals are held in the sanctuary.

Our Christian rock band provides the music and leadership for Emerging Worship, a weekly Sunday Communion worship service. It all begins with gathering music and fellowship at 11:00 a.m. and includes pastoral reflection, Holy Communion and contemporary Christian rock.

Children's Music Program
Joyful Noise Community Youth Music Program (an outreach of St. Stephen’s to the community) has music classes available for children ages 2-grade three during the summer months. In June, we explored American folk and patriotic songs; in July, we explored music from around the world; and in August, we’re going to be singing on the wild side as we learn some songs about animals. Three week session: August 7-23. Visit www.joyfulnoisemonona.com for class times and registration information.

Joyful NoiseDuring the School Year
Wednesdays; 5:00-5:45 pm

Parents of Kids 4K through Grade 1 (Ages 4-6): Children's music at St. Stephen's!  We sing, ring chimes, make noise, and explore age-appropriate elements of music while learning songs enabling our youngest members to be worship leaders.  If you have kids between the ages of 4 and 6, it's time to get them singing!  Rehearsals are Wednesday evening, 5:00-5:45 pm.  Please speak with Rebecca (music@ststlc.net) if you have questions, or to sign your kids up.  Got older kids who are interested?  Please speak with Rebecca:  she needs a few good assistant directors and helpers.

Joyful Noise is community youth music outreach program developed in connection with the congregation of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Monona, WI.  It aims to provide affordable access to general music education to children from pre-school to grade 4--music games and activities, songs, hands-on instrument experience--without the pressure of recitals, concerts or commitment to private instrumental study.

In Joyful Noise, children will have the opportunity to explore music through experimentation, play and movement.  They will learn aspects of rhythm and pitch with a variety of Orff and percussion instruments, develop self-confidence through improvisation and play at building their own music using bells and Boomwhackers, as well as experiencing some rudimentary music notation and terms.

Children
Group opportunities encourage the young to be involved in the service-oriented aspect of the church and encourage life-long commitment. They also provide a pool of peers fostering friendship and a sense of acceptance into the larger "Family of God." At St. Stephen's we encourage all children to participate in programs designed to build their self-esteem and musical abilities, and broaden their faith.
